Threshold thanks outgoing Chair Aideen Hayden for over two decades of service
Threshold also announces appointment of four new Board members
Friday 1 July 2022: Threshold, the national housing charity, has acknowledged the important and valued contribution of its outgoing Chairperson, Aideen Hayden and commended her lengthy dedication and commitment to its key goal of preventing homelessness.
The organisation has also welcomed the appointment of Liam Reid as its new Chairperson. He has been a valued member of Threshold’s Board of Directors for several years, including company secretary since 2018.
Mr Reid succeeds Dr Hayden, who held the position of Chairperson of Threshold for over two decades. A former solicitor who served as a Labour Senator from 2011-2016, and who has authored a number of key housing reports, Aideen played a leading role in a number of key campaigns during her time as Chairperson. These included initiatives to improve security of tenure for tenants in Ireland – resulting in the introduction of the Residential Tenancies Act 2004 – the grounding legislation which significantly improved the rights of tenants – the banning of bedsits, the introduction of rent regulation and playing a lead role in the establishment of Threshold’s Tenancy Protection Service, which has protected the homes of thousands of tenants.
Mr Reid said: “Aideen has been a leading figure in her advocacy and persistent campaigning for tenancy rights in Ireland. During her tenure, Threshold became a strong voice for private renters, and she worked incredibly hard to achieve enhanced tenancy policies and increased tenancy protections.
“She leaves a strong legacy behind, and I want thank her sincerely for the leadership and guidance she has provided throughout.”
Dr Hayden will retain a link to Threshold via the charity’s Policy and Research Group, which she will chair.
Liam is a leading public affairs professional, with a wealth of expertise and experience across government bodies, business groups and the media, including the Irish Times and Department of Housing and Local Government. Since 2011 Liam has worked for Diageo in a range of roles in corporate relations, most recently at a European and global level.
John-Mark McCafferty, CEO of Threshold said: “We are very pleased to announce Liam’s appointment as Threshold’s new Chairperson. Liam has been a key part of Threshold’s Board for a number of years and brings vast public affairs and corporate relations experience to the role.
“I wish to extend my sincere thanks to Aideen for her enormous contribution to all that we do at Threshold during her time as Chairperson. Aideen’s dedication and commitment to improving tenants’ rights is unmatched. We will continue to benefit from her expertise through her chairing of Threshold’s Policy and Research Group.”
