Threshold reaction to ban on new co-living developments

General News

Commenting in response to reports that the Minister intends to introduce a ban on the development of co-living units, Threshold, the national housing charity, has welcomed the decisive move by the Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien.

CEO of Threshold, John-Mark McCafferty said: “Renting is the reality, and will continue to be the reality, for an increasing number of people long into the future. Threshold’s vision is of an Ireland where everyone has access to affordable, secure, suitable and good quality housing for future generations. We do not believe that co-living is part of the solution to address the housing needs of many who live in the private rented sector.

“We view the Minister’s actions as a signal to developers that they must deliver high-quality housing as part of a wider programme of supply by developers, the state, and Approved Housing Bodies, and that the construction of quality, affordable rental must be at the heart of these solutions.”
