“Threshold welcomes the fact, that from today, Rent Pressure Zones have been extended nationally, providing crucial protection to an additional 41,000 households. This will give financial certainty to those households who, until today, could have had their rent increased by potentially hundreds of euros. We now want to ensure that all renters know they are protected by the 2% rent increase cap and encourage renters to get in touch if they have any questions, worries or concerns.
It is imperative that the RTB receives adequate resources to enforce these new rules effectively.
“While we welcome the Government passing this legislation, we continue to have concerns about proposed future changes which would allow rents to revert to market rates at tenancy turnover or when a tenant voluntarily vacates. We will continue to engage with Government and other stakeholders in the housing sector in the coming months on these proposed changes, to seek the best outcome for all private sector renters.
